Triomune is a combination therapy for people with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection. It contains three different antiretroviral agents: Stavudine - 40 mg Lamivudine - 150 mg Nevirapine - 200 mg Triomune comes in a packet of 30 tablets. It is recommended to take one tablet twice daily with a glass of water for as long as prewcribed by your doctor. Use of antiretroviral agents like those found in Triomune can occasionally lead to fatal cases of lactic acidosis. Signs yo umay be developing lactic acisosis can include nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain, difficulty breathing, loss of appetite, weight loss, or muscle weakness. Tell your doctor if you notice any of these side effects while taking Triomune. Other side effects reported with use of the individual active ingredients include: Stavudine: severe peripheral neuropathy (usually dose related, and more common in patients with advanced HIV infection or people who have previously experienced peripheral neuropathy. Lamivudine: nausea, vomiting, headaches, abdominal pain and discomfort, peripheral neuropathy, arthralgias, myalgias, skin rash, pancreatitis. Nevirapine: development of rash and liver toxicity (these can be potentially life-threatening so should be watched closely). Do not take Triomune if you have ever had an allergic reaction to any of the active ingredients. Triomune must not be taken if you are pregnant or are breastfeeding. Do not take Triomune if you have kidney or liver disease. Triomune should only be taken if you have received previous treatment for HIV and specifically treatment with nevirapine. Some medicines can interact negatively with Triomune. This may result in Triomune not working as intended, or Triomune can have a negative impact on the other medicines.
